Ice Skating Day: A Moment of Joy and Wonder

At the Freedom Development Foundation, we believe that even the smallest gestures can make a world of difference. Recently, we had the privilege of organising something truly special, a day of ice skating for 30 Palestinian refugee children living in Egypt. This event wasn’t just an afternoon of fun; it was a chance for these kids to experience something magical, allowing them to simply be children again, if only for a few hours.

Many of these brave children are orphans or have been separated from their families due to unimaginable circumstances. Providing them with a moment of joy and a break from their daily struggles felt incredibly important to us. Watching them lace up their skates for the first time and take to the ice with wide-eyed wonder is a memory we will cherish.

Initiatives like this extend far beyond immediate enjoyment. For children who often face uncertainty and hardship, engaging in joyful activities fosters emotional resilience and a sense of belonging. These experiences can spark creativity and inspire hope, reminding them that joy is always within reach, regardless of their circumstances.

After skating, we shared a delicious meal together, creating an atmosphere of warmth and community. Each child left with toys and drawing books, small tokens to remind them of the happiness they experienced. Witnessing their smiles, laughter, and pure joy reinforces our commitment to these initiatives.

Farm Day: A Day of Connection and Support

And then there was our Farm Day, FDF offered 20 refugee families a chance to relax and connect in a serene setting. Families enjoyed the fresh air while engaging in playful activities, like board games that brought about laughter and camaraderie.

At the farm,  families created  joyful memories together while interacting with animals. It was a moment for families to simply be together, savouring the peace of nature and the joys of family life.

In addition to providing a fun-filled day, we also distributed Zakat to help ease the burdens of these families. This combination of fun and assistance allowed us to address both the emotional and practical needs of these families, reinforcing our commitment to supporting them in meaningful ways.
